Production of gold and silver wyre, purls, specialist metallic thread and fine woven ribbons is at the heart of this 300-year-old family business. The Toye family learned to weave fine figured ribbon from Joseph Marie Jacquard himself and brought these skills to England in 1685 when they fled France. To augment the family skills, the firm of Benton & Johnson was bought by the Company in 1990. The company’s Royal Warrant is for gold and silver laces, insignia and embroidery to HM The Queen.
The company’s ribbons are considered the finest quality in the world. They are produced for many countries and international organisations including the UN and NATO. Toye’s threads are used by specialist and amateur embroiderers, theatrical and ecclesiastical costumiers, for sword grips, fishing flies and many crafts.
